Experience a White Christmas in Val D’Isere

Instead of the iconic sound of cicadas, sand castles, lazy days by the pool, prawns and mangoes .. think of a cosy fireplace with French food, wine and chocolate; evening walks along snow covered paths flanked with real Christmas trees and fairy-tale festive lights; riding horse-drawn sleighs with tinkling bells ..

Christmas is a magical time in the French Alps appealing to young and old alike. The historic village of Val d’Isere, built around stone, alpine farm-houses and an 11th century church, celebrates the festive season with a display of snow sculptures and giant Christmas bauble decorations, along with the all-important visit of Father Christmas and his reindeer.

In addition to experiencing the Christmas celebrations of a traditional French alpine village at Val D’Isere, you can explore the massive 300 kms of ski runs of the Val d’Isere – Tignes ski area or the impressive Snowpark located at 2500m on the main mountain of Bellevarde.

The skiing

The area is not only for the experienced skier or snowboarder, it is also a perfect place for a first-time snow experience with dedicated and accessible beginner areas and instructors that will help your skiing progress whatever your skiing ability. Being a Family Plus Ski Resort (family-friendly certification), Val d’Isere also focuses on providing comfortable, safe and enjoyable facilities for families, so that the little skier will become a happy big skier at Val d’Isere!

Snow activities

When not on the slopes, there are many other snow activities on offer – ranging from testing your ice driving skills, to shopping at the many tempting boutiques and galleries, to experiencing le Spa du Centre Aquasportif. The Centre Aquasportif is a destination in itself, with Beach World, Spa World, Sports World, Golf Simulator. (All 2-15-day lift passes include one free entrance to the Aqua Leisure Centre).

The food

No visit to Val d’Isere would be complete without savouring the Savoie regional delicacies at the many restaurants, either on the mountain or in the village (some of them Michelin-starred!). Enjoy cured meats, Diots (Savoyard sausages), raclettes, fondues, crozets, and tartiflette washed down with a glass of local Savoyard wine or Mont Blanc craft beer. Accommodation is as varied as the offerings of the area, ranging from budget self-catering apartments to luxury fully-inclusive, private chalets complete with chef and butler service.
