Family ski holidays in France

Around 30% of the world’s top ski resorts are located in France. So it is understandable that choosing a French ski resort for a once-in-a-lifetime family ski holiday can be a little overwhelming.

To help you choose your perfect mountain destination, the French Ministry of Tourism has categorised their mountain resorts to easily identify those best suited for families of all types and ages.

Apart from family friendly ski resorts, labelled as “Famille Plus Montagne”, other categories include: large domain resort, traditional village resort, snow rider resort, club resort and spa resort, disabled ski resort and Nordic skiing.

A resort is not limited to one category only and in fact most will fit several categories, meaning that nobody in the family misses out.

“Famille Plus Montagne” – a family friendly ski resort accreditation

To get the “Famille Plus Montagne” (Family Plus Mountain) accreditation, a ski resort must get approval from the French Ministry of Tourism as meeting the requirements of families with children aged 18 months and above staying in mountain resorts.

To qualify for this label, the ski resorts must meet most of the 110 criteria regarding:
  • infrastructure and information,
  • resort entertainment,
  • activities,
  • the discovery of the environment and mountain heritage,
  • accommodation and restaurant facilities,
  • amenities, transport and safety.
There are 7 commitments that the “Famille Plus Montagne” ski resorts must adhere to in order to play host to both children and adults:
  • A tailor-made infrastructure for families
  • Entertainment and activities to suit all ages
  • A price to suit everyone: from the youngest to the oldest
  • Activities for adults and children to enjoy, together or separately
  • Professionals that are trained to take great care of children
  • Children to be taken great care of by professionals
  • Our aim: to take your requirements and suggestions into account

Many resorts also offer free skiing for young children and other family lift pass deals. as well as access to other activities apart from skiing. Ski schools aim to make the learning experience a fun one, with childcare solutions that allow parents that precious full day out on the slopes.

In the Haute Savoie area alone there are some 24 resorts with the label ͞”Famille Plus Montagne”: Arêches, Aussois, Châtel, Combloux, #Courchevel, La Clusaz, #La Rosiere, Le Corbier, #Le Grand Bornand, #Les Carroz, #Les Gets, Les Houches, Les Karellis, #Les Menuires, #Megève, #Méribel, Montchavin, Morzine, Praz sur Arly, Saint Gervais, Samoëns, #Val d’Isère, #Valmorel and #Val Thorens!
