The Best La Rosière Accommodation
Discover the pinnacle of alpine luxury in La Rosière with our exclusive collection of self-catered 4-star and 5-star apartments and hotels. Each property is perfectly positioned to enhance your mountain getaway—whether it’s ski-in ski-out, just a few steps from the slopes and lifts, or in the vibrant heart of the village, every accommodation promises exceptional quality, sophistication, and comfort.
La Rosière is a high-altitude ski resort in the Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps. But it also links up with the Italian ski resort of La Thuile, offering access to two countries under one lift pass. Therefore, you can go to Italy for pizza for lunch and return to France for Fondue in the evening.
Skiers and snowboarders love La Rosière as it’s the snowiest resort in the area, but it’s also situated on the sunny side of the mountain at 1,850 meters. You also get incredible views along the valley of Les Arcs and La Plagne.
The skiable terrain around La Rosière is excellent, and it was given a new lease of life in 2018/19, thanks to new ski lifts and slopes. These changes made La Rosière’s ski area even more appealing.
La Rosière is popular with families, thanks to its gentle gradients. But beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders love wide-open pistes that give you plenty of room to play and stay safe.
Experienced skiers and snowboarders will find more challenging terrain over the border in La Thuile. But you’ll also find a couple of snowparks and a boardercross course.
Even though the resort is in the sun for most of the day, it has the most reliable snowpack of the Tarentaise resorts. It is also the least crowded, meaning lift lines are virtually non-existent.
The accommodation in La Rosière is varied, but you can stay in some superb 4 and 5-star apartments, hotels, and chalets. Many of these lodgings are ski-in-ski-out, making access to the slopes effortless.
La Rosière is a laidback ski resort, so don’t expect a huge party scene. However, there are some nice bars and restaurants to finish your day on the slopes.
You can experience many other activities when you’re not on the slopes. For example, ice-driving, fat biking, dog sledding and ice diving are all available nearby.
- La Rosiere is in the only dual country linked ski area (Espace San Bernardo) in the northern Alps where you can ski in 2 countries on the one lift pass. Espace San bernardo connects La Rosiere ski resort in France and La Thuile in Italy. The ski area enjoys a double aspect to the South and North guaranteeing excellent skiing and a panoramic view from both sets of slopes.
- Experiencing 2 different cultures and lifestyles you have the best of both worlds – French cuisine one day, traditional Italian the next.
- La Rosiere is a high altitude (1,850m) ski resort with 180 degree south-facing views across the Tarantaise Valley. You have sun all day long while also having incredible and reliable high-altitude snow conditions. From dawn to dusk, La Rosière’s slopes are bathed in sunshine. With Mont Blanc and the Petit-St-Bernard Pass just a stone’s throw away, the Espace San Bernardo benefits from favourable weather streams that guarantee excellent snow cover from mid-December to the end of April, with one of the highest snow falls in France.
- La Rosiere is one of the very few ski resorts in France with an Igloo village. After a short snowshoe walk, you can spend the night in an igloo after savouring a cheese fondue dinner and then wake up to a stunning sunrise surrounded by nature in all its glory.
- The Petit Saint-Bernard Pass is one of the best snow-kiting sites in the French Alps, thanks to its regular winds and guaranteed snow cover at an altitude of 2,200m. It’s in the Top 5 best ski resorts in France for practising snow-kiting.
- La Rosiere also has the X-Treme Luge (single rail sledge like a roller-coaster descending 1,000m and reaching speeds of up to 45km/h) and the DVA PARK by Evolution 2 (transceiver park) which allows off-piste enthusiasts to come and practice avalanche victim searches.
- La Rosière is ideal for families and beginners alike. It also offers great off piste and untouched slopes that are much less frequented than in neighbouring resorts.
- People looking for a different culture, with La Rosiere, you get to experience both French and Italian hospitality as both resorts of La Rosiere (France) and La Thuile (Italy) are linked under the same 1 ski pass: Espace San Bernardo. Tick both France and Italy off your ski bucket list at the one resort!
- La Rosiere offers great value self-catered apartments, ideal for families and groups of friends. There is also a new 4-star hotel which opened December 2019 (Hotel Alparena & Spa) and brand NEW hotels also opening in December 2020 (Hotel Sky La Rosiere, Alpen Lodge and Le Diamant des Cimes apartments. This follows the first Hyatt in the French Alps which opened Dec 2017: Hyatt Centric La Rosiere.
- People looking for the best snow conditions while also getting plenty of sunny days and less crowded slopes than the usual big ski resorts in the Tarentaise valley.
Enjoying both French and Italian food and culture, get a hit of adrenalin down the X treme luge, or have a go at Paret, snakegliss, snow-kiting, or paragliding.
La Rosiere also offers many other non-skiing winter activities such as indoor rock climbing, bowling alley and ice skating (La Rosière has a 360m2 indoor ice rink). There is also a cinema.
Unwind in a truly relaxing atmosphere at the new Spa La Rosiere. Take in the stunning view, enjoy a magic moment in the panoramic sauna, soothe tired muscles in the whirlpool, recharge the soul with salt therapy. Many of the hotels and Residences also have great spas.
La Rosière is a 2-hour 25min drive by private transfer from Lyon Airport and 2hrs 40min from Geneva airport.
It’s a 30 min drive from Bourg St Maurice train station, the closest train station in France to La Rosière.
A shared shuttle transfer from Geneva will take over 4hrs and will only drop you off at the village bus stop, not at your accommodation – not ideal if you are travelling with ski gear and luggage and don’t know your way around.
Next winter, La Rosière ski resort is scheduled to open from December 9th 2023 to April 21st 2024.
There are only 2 ski resorts linked on the Espace San Bernardo lift pass: La Rosière (France) and La Thuile (Italy).
January 3rd to Feb 7th 2026 is the cheapest and best time to go (low season), followed by 7th March until mid-April 2026 (the shoulder season).
For Australians travelling to France to ski during our January summer holidays, we benefit from the cheaper rates on offer in the French ski resorts’ low season. This happens to be when the French and Europeans go back to work and school after the 2 week Christmas and New Year holiday period.
Europeans and the Brits flock to the resorts through February into March (DO NOT TRAVEL from 7th Feb to 7th Mar 2026 as this is the French school holidays). The slopes are extremely busy, the queues at the lifts are long and the price for accommodation is very expensive during that time. Even all the restaurants are booked out!
Typically, in January, the snow is dry with the largest build up. It is also the coldest time, so you will need to make sure that you dress warmly. It is still wise to choose a high-altitude resort in case mother nature has not been kind earlier in the season. Bear in mind though, that snow-making is used to supplement natural snowfall in high traffic areas.
So, not only is January the cheapest time to go skiing in the French Alps, it is also the best time to go thanks to the weather conditions, the lack of queues, more availability and choice of accommodation and you get to breathe fresh air with your loved ones, rather than with thousands of other people!

Activities & Location
Non-ski activities and experiences
When on a family ski holiday, it is a good idea to pick a resort with a range of activities to do. Whether you are looking for something to do on a day off the slopes or want to experience what the area has to offer, La Rosière has a wide choice of things to do. For example, La Rosiere has a cinema, a fitness centre, and a couple of spas. One of these spas offers a Japanese-style onsen bath experience. But there are some other unique experiences to be had, here are some of our favourites.
Igloo Village
La Rosiere is home to a fantastic Igloo village. You can take a moonlit snowshoe walk and spend the night in an igloo, after a delicious fondue. This gives you the opportunity to wake up to the sun rising over the Alps, which is an unmissable experience.
X-Treme Luge
The X-Treme Luge is a rollercoaster-like ride that runs on a single rail. You ride down the rail 1000m down the mountainside, as it twists and turns at speeds of up to 45km/h. This is a fun activity for all the family.
Avalanche Rescue Practice
If you plan on doing some off-piste skiing, or heli-skiing, it would be a good idea to practice your avalanche safety. La Rosière has the DVA Park by Evolution 2, which allows you to refine your transceiver skills. If all this is new to you, book a lesson, and an instructor will teach you the latest techniques.
